Good communication with your stylist is essential for getting the colour you want. A few minutes of pre-salon prep can help you explain your goals, and ensure that your stylist understands your desired result. 
THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:

1. Try to walk into the salon with your everyday "look," so your stylist can get a feel for what you're comfortable with.
   
   
2. If you have the time, do a little research into colour science. Knowing the difference between terms like demi-permanent and permanent color can help you and your stylist communicate more efficiently. Study up with Redken's glossary.
   
   
3. Your stylist is there to work with you to achieve beautiful colour. The more you can explain what you want, the better the collaboration will be.
4. If you are going in for "corrective colour"—to correct colour results you are unhappy with from a prior colouring experience—be prepared for a longer visit, as your stylist may need to remove old colour and then recolour your hair.

SALON PREP CHECK LIST

Bring your inspiration: Photographs and examples of haircolour you love will help you and your stylist explore your colour options—and ensure that you both mean the same thing when you say, "honey blonde," or "scarlet red."  

Know your history: Be prepared to tell your stylist about any prior colour services, whether it was highlights last year or a colour gloss last month.  

Trust Your Stylist: Listen to your stylist's expert opinion. During your colour consultation, he or she will consider your desired result, then evaluate your hair's condition and look at your skin tone and colouring in order to create your custom colour formulation.  

Ask questions: If you hear a colour term you don't understand, don't hesitate to ask your stylist for an explanation. Remember to inquire about maintenance—how often you'll need to return to the salon for touchups, and how to best maintain your colour at home between visits with Redken haircare products.

What is a restyle anyway?
You know when you look in the mirror and you just need something new? That's when it's time for a restyle. Get rid of your winter locks and step into summer and endless Christmas parties with the new you. We believe a restyle should happen 2 - 4 times each year. When was your last? Can you remember???

The first blog post seems a long time in the making. We first created Universal in April 2011 with the aim to offer the highest quality service in a welcoming environment at good value for money. We haven't come from the industry - which is a good thing because we haven't been tainted with bad habits. We have a lot of great things for you coming up which you just don't get here on the Sunshine Coast. Consider this more of a club, than another salon. This will be fun. I hope you will join us for the ride.

Talk about busy here at Universal. It is all hands on deck! Those lucky ones at Caloundra and Mooloolaba will see some pleasant fitout changes. We all know how much of a makeover they need. We have two brilliant salons coming online in Gympie next Monday just to add to the excitement. And of course, at the same time, our TV campaign kicks in.
