                      COLOUR TRENDS

Tracey Cunningham, Redken Creative Consultant for Colour has the latest in haircolour trends:

As the thermometer drops this winter, trendy haircolors are on the rise with brilliant brunettes, rich redheads and bright blondes. Tracey Cunningham, Redken Creative Consultant for Color has the latest in fall haircolor trends and professional haircolor products to achieve these trends and get the hottest looks of the season.

"I make small adjustments to update my clients’ color from fall to winter,” says Tracey. “I love using the new Redken Illumination technique to create a natural but current look. The technique is all about graduating the color from dark at the base to light on the ends to create a beautiful, modern look."

                      Trend #1: Brunettes

"The look of the upcoming season will continue to be the ‘Illumination’ effect. It is the hottest haircolor trend in Hollywood right now and it can be seen on every red carpet! It is a fun look that welcomes the winter months going brunette around the base and gradually going lighter down to the ends of the hair. Time is always of the essence and with the 'Illumination' look, you don’t have to visit your colorist as often as you would for regular highlights since color isn’t applied on the roots." --Tracey Cunningham

                      Trend #2: Redheads

"Isla's color is one of my favorite looks. The shine in her hair gives her a vibrant look from head to toe. This fall you will see this look on many of my celebrity clients as it’s a very seasonal trend. The color is in-between a strawberry blonde red and a ginger red; it is the perfect touch of "fun-in-the-sun look' after the summer months." --Tracey Cunningham

                      Trend #3: Blondes

"Emma's new blonde look has been quite the buzz with the media. This look is the result of a few visits to the salon to get it just right. The most important aspect to this look is keeping your locks hydrated to reduce breakage from the lightener. The look has highlights and lowlights throughout the hair and an ultra blonde base." --Tracey Cunningham

Things to know before you head to the salon:

                      • Try to walk into the salon with your everyday "look," so your colourist can get a feel for what you're comfortable with.

                      • If you have the time, do a little research into colour science. Knowing the difference between terms like demi-permanent and permanent colour can help you and your colourist communicate more efficiently. Study up with Redken's glossary.

                      • Your colourist is there to work with you to achieve beautiful colour. The more you can explain what you want, the better the collaboration will be.

                      • If you are going in for "corrective colour" – to correct colour results you are unhappy with from a prior colouring experience – be prepared for a longer visit, as your colourist may need to remove old colour and then recolour your hair.

                      Salon prep checklist:

                      • Bring your inspiration: Photographs and examples of haircolour you love will help you and your colourist explore your colour options – and ensure that you both mean the same thing when you say, "honey blonde" or "scarlet red."

                      • Know your history: Be prepared to tell your colourist about any prior colour services, whether it was highlights last year or a colour gloss last month.

                      • Trust your colourist: Listen to your colourist's expert opinion. During your colour consultation, he or she will consider your desired result, then evaluate your hair's condition and look at your skin tone and colouring in order to create your custom colour formulation.

                      • Ask questions: If you hear a colour term you don't understand, don't hesitate to ask your colourist for an explanation. Remember to inquire about maintenance – how often you'll need to return to the salon for touchups, and how to best maintain your colour at home between visits with Redken haircare products.
